Title: E-Collaboration tools as a support to businesses internationalization - A case study analyses
Authors: Silva, Rui; Aguiar, António Soares; Pinto, Carlos
Abstract: Within a context of economic, financial and social crises, Portuguese companies feel the need to internationalize their business, in order to ensure their survival, in a climate of severe contraction of the domestic demand. However, the process of internationalization is not free of multiple difficulties. In order to minimize these difficulties and to support the internationalization processes, organizations can implement and use e-collaboration tools. This research paper uses the case study methodology to analyse and understand the use of impact of the e-Collaboration tool, Lync, from Microsoft, to support the internationalization process of the ProCME group. Even though the company has found some difficulties associated to Lync implementation, this tool has shown to be a valuable asset in supporting the internationalization of ProCME. Indeed, the study results show evidance that the Lync is very well accepted by users and perceived as a technological tool very easy to use. In terms of organizational impacts, it is shown evidencce that the Lync contributes significantly to increase work productivity of ProCME international teams made up of employees from different countries, by saving time in carrying out administrative tasks and facilitating the access to relevant data for decision making. Additionally, we conclude that the use of Lync contributes to significantly decrease communications costs and travel expenses.

Title: Innovative Enhanced Learning Systems: Concepts and Challenges
Authors: Dias, Albertina; Bechina, Aurelie Aurilla
Abstract: The last decades, Internet has brought a revolution in
the way people are acquiring knowledge. The emergence
of new information and communication technologies
(ICT) and social software networking is paving an
innovative way on how teaching and learning can take
place. New Innovative enhanced learning systems, based
on multimedia content and strong interactivity are
becoming more and more popular. These systems are
based on computer visions, Artificial Intelligence, image
processing. This paper presents two enhanced learning
systems developed in Norway and Portugal. They are
based on the concepts of game based learning and
augmented realities techniques. The paper discusses as
well the challenges in adopting such new ICT tools
looking forward enhanced learning.

Exploring User Generated Data Visualization in the Accommodation Sector

Title: Exploring User Generated Data Visualization in the Accommodation Sector
Authors: Carvalho, Elizabeth Simão; Chaves, Marcirio Silveira
Abstract: An important part of our information-gathering behavior has always been to find out what other people think. People now actively use information technologies to seek out and understand the opinions of others. This is due to the availability and popularity of opinion-rich resources such as online review sites and personal blogs. The accommodation sector is one of those where the guest opinion dictates its future. This sector needs to adapt and update the services they offer to their guests in order to stay competitive.
In this paper we outline the potential use of tree oriented visual techniques to map 1500 online reviews collected from 50 small and medium hotels (SMH). Our goal is to deliver visually the results of these reviews as straightforward and intuitively as possible to the accommodation managers, enabling them use it to support their decision making.

Why Do Firms Adopt E-Procurement Systems? Using Logistic Regression to Empirically Test a Conceptual Model

Title: Why Do Firms Adopt E-Procurement Systems? Using Logistic Regression to Empirically Test a Conceptual Model
Authors: Aguiar, António; Reis, António
Abstract: Once the factors that foster the adoption of electronicprocurement
systems (EPSs) are identified, economic agents may
act accordingly and develop better programs in order to achieve
their objectives. Toward the identification of such factors, a model
that explains the adoption of EPS is developed, considering the
technology–organization–environment framework as well as the
institutional theory. This model was tested with data collected from
the 2500 largest companies operating in Portugal. On the grounds
of the t-test for equality of means, we found evidence that EPS
adoption is positively and significantly associated to: 1) firm size;
2) technology competence; 3) the perception companies have about
the EPS success of their competitors; 4) the extent of adoption
among competitors; and 5) the readiness of the trading partners
to perform electronic transactions. The logistic regression supplied
further evidence that technology competence, firm size, extent of
adoption among competitors, and trading partner readiness provide
a reasonable estimate for each firm’s likelihood to adopt EPS.
We also found evidence that firms whose main activity is commerce
are more likely to adopt EPS than are firms operating on
manufacturing or services industries.
